Do you know what types of lab spinning machines there are?

A spinning machine is a machine that processes fiber raw materials (such as cotton, wool, chemical fiber, etc.) into yarn. Yarn is the basic raw material for textile production, and spinning machines play a vital role in the textile industry.

Concept of Spinning Machine

The spinning machine processes the fibers into yarns with a certain strength and length through a series of processes such as combing, stretching, and twisting. These yarns can be further used to weave cloth or other textile products.

Development History

Hand Spinning: Before mechanized spinning, spinning mainly relied on manual operation. For example, the ancient Chinese spinning wheel and the hand spinning wheel in India.

Industrial Revolution Period: From the late 18th century to the early 19th century, spinning machines ushered in a revolutionary development. In 1764, James Hargreaves invented the spinning jenny, which improved the efficiency of spinning. Subsequently, Richard Arkwright invented the water-powered spinning machine, which further promoted the development of the textile industry.

Modern Spinning Machines: In the 20th century, with the development of electricity and automation technology, spinning machines became more efficient and intelligent. For example, ring spinning machines became the main equipment of the spinning industry, and the degree of automation and production efficiency were greatly improved.

Importance in Modern Production

Efficient Production: Modern spinning machines can produce high-quality yarn quickly and in large quantities, greatly improving production efficiency and meeting the huge market demand for textiles.

Quality Control: Advanced spinning machines are equipped with various sensors and control systems, which can monitor and adjust the spinning process in real time to ensure the uniformity and strength of the yarn and improve product quality.

Diversified Production: Modern spinning machines can process a variety of fiber raw materials (such as natural fibers and synthetic fibers) and produce different types and specifications of yarn to meet the needs of different textiles.

Reduced Labor Intensity: Automated spinning machines reduce dependence on manual operation, reduce labor intensity, and improve the working environment of workers.

Types of lab spinning machines

Melt spinning machine

A melt spinning machine is a device that sends polymer melt to various spinning parts in the spinning box, passes through a metering pump, a spinning assembly, a filter, and finally extrude through the spinneret holes to form fibers. The following is an introduction to the characteristics and applications of melt spinning machines:

Characteristics of melt spinning machines

  • High spinning speed: Since the melt stream cools in the air, the heat transfer and the solidification of the filaments are fast, and the resistance to the movement of the filaments is small, the spinning speed of the melt spinning machine is much higher than that of wet spinning. The general spinning speed is 1000-2000 m/min, and it can reach 3000-6000 m/min during high-speed spinning.

  • Air cooling: During the spinning process, the stream is cooled and formed in the air medium, and the cooling and solidification speed is fast. In order to accelerate this process, there is usually a cooling blow in the perpendicular direction to the filaments after the stream leaves the spinneret.

  • Filter component: The melt spinning machine is equipped with a sea sand or metal sand filtration system to ensure that the melt is pure and free of impurities during the spinning process, thereby producing high-quality fibers.

  • Porous design: The number of small holes in the spinneret ranges from a few to thousands, and can be adjusted to produce fibers of different specifications as needed.

Application of melt spinning machines

  • Polyester is one of the most commonly used polymers in melt spinning machines, and is used to produce a variety of textiles, such as clothing fabrics, home textile products, and industrial fabrics.

  • Nylon fibers are widely used in the manufacture of wear-resistant textiles, such as sportswear, socks, and fishing nets.

  • Polypropylene fibers have excellent chemical resistance and wear resistance, and are often used in the production of carpets, ropes, and filter materials.

Wet spinning machine

A wet spinning machine is a device that extrudes a thin stream of solution through a spinneret after a series of preparations, and forms nascent fibers in a coagulation bath. The following is an introduction to the characteristics and applications of wet spinning machines:

Characteristics of wet spinning machines

  • Double diffusion forming: After the solution stream is extruded from the spinneret, it enters the coagulation bath. During this process, the solvent in the solution diffuses into the coagulation bath, and the coagulant diffuses into the thin stream, so that the polymer precipitates in the coagulation bath and forms nascent fibers.

  • A large number of capillaries: The number of capillaries in the spinneret ranges from thousands to tens of thousands, and has reached more than 100,000 at most, which is suitable for large-scale fiber production.

  • Multiple treatments: The spinning solution needs to go through a series of preparations such as mixing, filtering and degassing before being sent to the spinning machine to ensure that the solution is uniform and free of impurities.

Application of wet spinning machines

At present, acrylic, vinylon, chloroprene, spandex and viscose are mostly wet-spinning.

Dry spinning machine

The dry spinning speed is generally 200-500 m/min, and the highest can reach 1000-1500 m/min. However, due to the limitation of solvent evaporation speed, the dry spinning speed is still lower than that of melt spinning. The main varieties of dry spinning production include acrylic fiber, acetate fiber, chloroprene fiber, spandex, etc.

How to choose a laboratory spinning machine?

Clarify the experimental needs

First, clarify the specific needs of the experiment, such as:

  • Fiber type for research: Do you need to deal with natural fibers, synthetic fibers, or specialty fibers?

  • Experimental scale: Is it a small-scale test or does it require large-scale production simulation?

  • Target yarn characteristics: What characteristics of yarn need to be produced (such as strength, fineness, uniformity, etc.)

Understand the characteristics of different types of spinning machines

Choose the appropriate type of spinning machine according to the fiber type and experimental needs:

  • Wet spinning machine: Suitable for studying regenerated cellulose fibers (such as viscose fibers) and some special synthetic fibers.

  • Melt spinning machine: Suitable for studying thermoplastic synthetic fibers (such as polyester, polypropylene, nylon).

  • Dry spinning machine: Suitable for studying special fibers such as polyacrylonitrile (used to produce acrylic fibers).

Consider the performance and functions of the machine

When choosing a spinning machine, consider its performance and functions:

  • Adjustability and flexibility: Are the machine parameters easy to adjust to conduct experiments under different conditions?

  • Precision and consistency: Can the machine provide high-precision and consistent yarn production to ensure the reliability of experimental results?

  • Automation degree: Machines with a high degree of automation can reduce operating errors and improve experimental efficiency.

Brand and after-sales service

It is very important to choose equipment with a reputable brand and good after-sales service:

  • Brand reputation: Choosing a well-known brand can guarantee the quality and reliability of the machine.

  • After-sales service: Make sure that the supplier provides good technical support and after-sales service so that problems with the equipment can be solved in time.
